Holiday Eating, Round 1 is over. Give your tummy a rest and get back on track with a smoothie. It’s just like hitting the restart button on your MacBook. Combine some plants, a fluid, and a few extra goodies and you’ve got liquid medicine! This one was invented the morning after Thanksgiving: I dumped a few items from around the kitchen into the Cuisinart to see what might happen. It was light, refreshing, and not too sweet. (Health notes in parentheses are my own).
Holiday Detox Smoothie
1/2 c. unsweetened almond milk (a little plant protein to brighten the skin and eyes!)
1/2 banana (a boost of potassium counters all that holiday drinking)
1 small plum (fiber + vitamin C + mild sweetness)
1/2 green apple (for energy and vitamins)
1 tbsp. flax seed (for good digestion)
dash of cinnamon (a little warm spice livens up your system)
Blend all ingredients (add liquid first) in a blender or Cuisinart. Garnish with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon if desired. Makes 1 smoothie.
